Spyscape Museum
I’ve been wanting to visit the Spyscape Museum ever since it opened earlier this year. The regular general admission prices are $32 for children and $39 for adults; the Flexpass admission prices are $52 for children and $59 for adults. I got lucky by attending the Beta Testing night that occurred Thursday and Friday last week, on these nights entry was free so I got some of my friends to attend Friday night with me.
After work on Friday, I met up with my friend and we took the train to 59th Street. Our other friend was already there and checked us in ahead of time. After going through a bag check, we put our things in a locker with a built in combination lock. After securing our things we headed to the elevator bank to get started. We had to wait for the next available trip which had a ten minute wait, but to bide time there were machines where we could answer some questions that would fill out parts of our spy profiles.
The elevator soon arrived and this was no regular elevator, it was huge with an intro video playing on all of the walls. The ride up took some time but we learned everything we needed to know to get started in that time. Once upstairs we got started.
The museum was a mix of historical facts and interactive activities. The first activity dealt with encryption, where we were taught how messages were sent in secret using this method. The next activity was deception where my facial features were recorded along with my pulse and I was asked to tell two truths and four lies. Then they showed playback of my answers along with some traits of a lie being told such as a lot of blinking or pursing of the lips. Then we were put to the test and had to watch a video of a woman being questioned and decide whether or not she was telling the truth.
The next activity that we headed to dealt with special ops. We had to go into a hallway and avoid touching the lasers appearing around us while still hitting the lit buttons on the wall. It was a test of agility and I scored 102 button hits and described as extremely agile.
The last activity was surveillance where we entered a room with cameras surrounding us and had to answer questions identifying which camera the corresponding action was happening.
After performing some more personality tests I was described as an Agent Handler, a manager of agents who provide secret intelligence or operational support. Overall it was a good time I probably would not pay $39 to go but give it a try if you have some free time and a discount lol. We headed to happy hour to celebrate my friend Janyce’s new job, congrats to her, it was a great ending to my Friday!
