Home Chef
Since I am a single woman, I used to find myself going grocery shopping and most of the food would end up spoiling and going to waste. After discussing with a friend I started seriously considering trying out a meal plan box. There are literally so many options out there now but I wanted to find an option that wasn’t just based on diet or gluten free meals. I zoomed in on Home Chef which appealed to me the most and of course they offered a coupon code for your first order worth $30 off and so I figured why not? If I hate it I only spent $20 on 3 meals and I could end up liking it which would help my pockets in the long run.
The way Home Chef works is that you can pick out at least 2 meals weekly, with a minimum of 2 servings per meal and a maximum of 4 servings per meal (for a family of 4). Since it is just me, I usually order 2 servings of 2 meals a week so I end up saving the 2nd serving for the next day. I set up my boxes for Tuesday delivery each week, so that when I get home from work I can pick it up and head upstairs to settle in and start cooking. My building has a package room with a fridge so that they can store my box, however for those people without that luxury each box arrives with a couple of ice packs inside. I never have to worry about food spoiling anymore as they send you the exact ingredients in the box for each meal along with the recipes to guide you along, so if you are a beginner it is not hard at all. In my first delivery box I also received a binder to hold all of my recipe pages which was cute and super helpful and if I ever love a meal it allows me to be able to look back and recreate that exact meal. You also have the option of skipping meals whenever you like. This can also be updated in the Home Chef app along with managing the other aspects of your deliveries.
This is the last week of Lent and I gave up meat on Fridays so I ordered one meat and one shrimp meal. Being delivered today is Chipotle Shrimp Tostadas with guac and queso fresco and a Caprese Burger with Italian seasoned potatoes. As mentioned before I usually get 2 servings of each so I have dinner to last me for the week.
Now lets talk prices. Typically a meal costs $9.95/serving which with my two meals this week was $39.80 plus $10.00 shipping which totaled $49.80. Sometimes they have what they call "premium meals" which can be a little bit extra. This is not bad at all to me because if I was ordering out I would probably spend around this amount on a meal that would most likely only last a day or two when I am getting 4 meals for around this same price. WINNER!! Now my money mostly goes towards buying drinks and snacks for the house so I am saving on food. I am so happy I gave in and tried this program out and it really works for me, now I don’t know how long I will keep ordering boxes, but right now I don’t see me stopping anytime soon.
