Vacay Trips to Cancun

Vacay Trips to Cancun

Once again I ventured to Cancun, but this time it was a family vacation for my cousin’s wedding. As you guys know, I’ve been to Cancun for a close friend’s birthday already but this time I was excited to finally experience actually staying on the resort and enjoying the amenities versus going out and participating in different excursions. I had an amazing time and feel like I have grown closer to some of my family members.

I was the only person from my immediate family to attend so I made sure to book my travel with the rest of my family members so that I would not be arriving and departing alone. We flew out on Tuesday morning and once we landed we made it through TSA and went outside to meet our transportation company. It was extremely hot so I could not wait to get to the resort and freshen up. We were a group of 14 traveling together from NYC so we were set up in a large van which worked out for us. Last visit to Cancun I remember staying a bit further from the airport but our ride was only about 15 minutes from the airport before we arrived at our resort. After exiting the vehicle, we were given a paper to keep for our luggage that would be delivered to our room once we finished checking in. As soon as we stepped into the lobby we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a cold towel which felt amazing in that humidity. My cousin, her fiancé and the family that were already there met us in the lobby and the bride greeted us with gift bags while we all waited until everybody was checked in before heading to our rooms.

The way that the resort was set up was by building, so most of us were in building 2 which was where I was stationed and I was on the 4th while the rest were on the 2nd floor (I believe this was based on the room/view preference). I had a room all to myself which I was excited about because I have always shared on past trips so it was a whole new experience and boyyy was my room huge and alllll mine lol. My cousins and I all agreed to change and head out to eat before going to the pool, so I freshened up, got changed and met up with my cousins.

We ended up at the casual restaurant outside where everyday the menu switches up. For lunch I ordered chicken wings as an appetizer, seafood fettuccine (which we asked to swap out marinara sauce for alfredo), and dessert which was coconut ice cream. We then headed over to the gazebo bar by the pool where some of the other family was and got some drinks before making our way to the pool which was lukewarm so you could dip right in. My cousin had her speaker so we made a party right there and even had some people passing by joining in. The bride came over and we made plans to have dinner at the same place we had lunch so we went to our rooms, showered and changed then headed down. I was full from lunch but I still ordered calamari and shrimp penne lol. I ate what I could and we took some pics before I was out for the night (don’t say I am boring; I woke up at 4:30 AM to make the flight lol).

The next day, we headed to the breakfast buffet, I love going to breakfast at resorts so that I can get my made to order omelet, which I am pretty boring with but ham and spinach was the choice for the whole trip lol. I also got some potatoes, toast and bunch of bacon, the bacon tasted so fresh and good. When we sat down our drink orders were taken so I ordered coffee and coca cola (anybody who knows me knows I can’t live without the two) and after eating we headed up to change for the pool. We decided to participate in water aerobics which was fun before we ate and had ice cream. On the itinerary for the day we had an all-white rehearsal dinner so I headed to my room for some rest before getting ready. I donned my all white and went down to my cousin’s room before we headed to the restaurant. For dinner we had sushi and salmon as an appetizer, shrimp wrapped with chicken for the entrée, and a macaroon and chocolate covered truffle for dessert. We headed upstairs and changed so that we could chill, we ended up going to the disco which is their version of a nightclub and hanging out for a bit. At about midnight I was over it and headed to my room with my younger cousin, what I didn’t know was that they turn off the main lights at a certain time so it was dark as hell so I ran, yes ran to my room lol. I made it in, took a shower and turned in for the night.

Today was the day…wedding day! We went to breakfast and I ended up chillin in the bride’s room for the rest of the day before going to my room to get ready for main event. I went downstairs alone this time and was met with a beautiful setup for the ceremony by the gazebo. During the ceremony I’m not going to lie but I shed a couple of G-tears out of happiness lol. After the ceremony we headed to the cocktail hour by the infinity pool where they had shrimp and pineapple kabob, calamari, and more with a mariachi band playing in the background. The view was beautiful and peaceful. We were then directed got the reception which was held outside under a tent and before finding our seats we had to take a shot of tequila out of a custom shot glass which we were able to keep as a gift.

Dinner was so good, it was buffet style and of course I headed straight to the pasta station before hitting all of the other tables and digging in to my food. Not too long after the party started and of course my Caribbean family turned it up. The night came to a close and I turned in. The next day was our last in paradise, so we went through our normal routine of breakfast before heading to the pool alllll day, by the time I came out I was a wrinkled mess. After freshening up we headed to the Hibachi restaurant which was really good before we turned in and I packed up for the next day.

Before we headed out to the airport we went to breakfast one last time, I made sure to enjoy that food since it would be my last. After making it to the airport, we went through security and made it on the plane. Thank God for a suggestion from my cousin, when we arrived in NYC we made it through customs really quickly and back home we were. I was really sad to be back and thinking about going to work on Monday but what an amazing time I had. It was a really different experience of staying on the resort and I can say I really enjoyed it.
