Fashion Week and It's Shutdown

Fashion Week and It's Shutdown

NYFW was such a fun weekend and I’m glad the weather was a bit better than earlier this year when I attended. Of course there were many events going on this weekend and I made my way to some. There was the YSL Beauty Hotel that basically fell into my lap out of nowhere and the Maybelline House event both near SoHo.

YSL announced this hotel and it was an RSVP only experience and thankfully I was able to book a slot for Saturday at 11 AM before it sold out. I knew exactly who to tell and who would be down for this so we made plans to meet up at the hotel. I had a cute/casual fit in mind, but of course the morning of was chilly, so I changed it up with a denim fit and hopped in an Uber. On my way to SoHo, the sun started coming out a bit more which made me feel better and I started getting more excited. As I pulled up, my friend let me know he was outside and we showed our passes to the ladies by door (who were donned in the chicest Parisian look, wigs and all) and were let right on in. The vibe I got was that they weren’t being too strict with the time slots booked and were more focused on people just having an actual ticket.

We walked into what felt like an actual hotel lobby with a check in desk, a luggage cart and a wall with a bunch of room keys. Of course I had to take a pic by the luggage cart (lol), but the lobby fit in with the chic style of the YSL brand. After walking up to the check in desk, we were given a booklet containing a map of the hotel and what each floor featured as well as some information on the brand and then my friend and I were off to the next level.

OMG the first floor contained a runway over a pool so you know I had to give it a go. They had a photo booth to record and chop up your runway walk and create this cool video and my first thought watching everyone else walk, was that I had to werk honey! I let my friend go first and then put my stuff down and got to walking. I will say I am glad I wore sneakers because I was nervous about taking a tumble into the pool but YSL thought about that and featured a handsome lifeguard to jump in and save anybody who fell in, God forbid. After sending the video to myself and thanking the people we moved on to the next floor.

The next floor was set up as a lounge with couches, a DJ booth and a bar that had coffee and sparkling water as well as samples of the YSL fragrance. Right next to that there was a hotel bedroom and a photographer to take your pic as you made your own fun in the room. The photographer was really cool and made everyone feel comfortable in their own skin to just let go and have fun. His camera was hooked up to a photo booth that allowed you to view and send yourself the pics from this photoshoot and I just sat down and posed and let me tell you how good of a hype man he was lol. He made me feel as if I was an actual model and made the experience really easygoing. After sending our pics to ourselves we thanked him and made our way to the next floor. This floor was the last in the hotel and was basically set up like a makeup room where visitors could sample the makeup products with a professional, but the gem was the outside lounge on the rooftop that had couches and a beautiful view. The experience was supposed to last an hour but we made it through in literally 15 minutes. On our way down to get something to eat I ran into someone I knew in the lounge waiting for a mutual friend so we decided to wait with her and make the afternoon a big group outing since we were all heading to the same event next. When our mutual friend arrived we sat around and waited for our male friend who was running late. By the time he came, the girls were finished with the hotel and we all headed to Café Habana. Many people don’t even know that there is a Habana in the city (you’re welcome lol), but we had a quick brunch there. I had their Cuban sandwich which was amazing, I def recommend to you all.

Next on the list…the Maybelline House! We trekked over to LES where we met up with one of our other female friends and we entered while the guys waited for us outside. As soon as we walked in there was a turnstile setup as if we were in the subway, and after walking through there was a cute installation as if in a subway car with the seats. To the left of this was a juice bar set up to look like a newsstand and in front of that was a makeup area that had a station to get tested for your shade in their foundation. After getting tested you were gifted in your shade and then you could head over to the tables to get a mini makeover.

There was a little tunnel that after walking through you entered into a dark space with string lights. There was a lounge area here as well as a bar area. After getting some pics in this section, there was a line just before the bar where you could choose between a custom screen-printed t-shirt or tote bag, (of course I chose the tote bag because of course I need another one of those just ask my tote door in my apartment lol) before getting a drink at the bar. I heard someone say that they weren’t adding alcohol to the drinks until after 3 pm so I got a drink that sounded like the equivalent to a Shirley Temple. After spending some more time here, we headed out and met up with the guys and another friend that was with them. Our group split ways because some of us headed to the Genius BBQ event in Brooklyn.

The Genius event was held in Gowanus at their headquarters it was a chill vibe and there was a ton of people there. As soon as we entered they had a station for a music quiz, my group all played and the prize was the choice between a pin or a lighter, I chose the pin. All floors of the HQ were open and after trekking further back we discovered a bar, a stage for performers (2 Chainz was performing later that night) and their rooftop was open. It was cute and after my long day of moving all over NYC I decided to head home in an Uber. The day was very eventful and I def had a great time. Did anybody else get to enjoy NYFW and if so let me know what events you participated in. Enjoy some more pic below and don’t forget to like, subscribe and share!
