Brunchnista
Hey Slayerss!! I went to brunch last weekend to catch up with some of my fam from college and we had such a great time. We were able to brunch away at Hotel Chantelle in the city and I was excited since I’ve seen so many great brunch photos at this restaurant. After a bit of a wait and we were led upstairs and seated on the rooftop which had a retractable covering. Perfect space where we can still enjoy the ambiance and still be comfortable in the winter. We decided weeks before that we would go with the unlimited option for brunch which included a couple of food options served family style and 3 unlimited drink choices. Unfortunately, I did not get photos of the food since I was so in the moment, but it was delicious. We were a group of 17 and paid $85/person for our brunch.
Our family style brunch options consisted of Breakfast Pizza, Greek Breakfast Yogurt, Avocado Toast, Baby Leaf Caesar, Scrambled Egg Crostini, Stuffed French Toast, Chicken & Waffles, Maple Glazed Bacon, Kobe Beef Sliders and Truffle Tator Tots. For cocktails we decided on unlimited pitchers of Mimosas, Bellinis, and Margaritas. Since I didn’t take pics, I figured that I can make it up to you guys by describing each option.
Breakfast Pizza: Looked good, but I’ve never really been a fan of breakfast foods mixed together. The “pizza” was a mix of scrambled eggs, cheddar, crumbled bacon, chives and spicy ketchup. I might’ve experimented with ketchup on my eggs when I was younger, but I gave that up a longggg time ago. So, while it was presented beautifully, I would pass. Grade: C
Greek Breakfast Yogurt: Another item that I didn’t try. Honestly the presentation wasn’t all that good. They brought out a bowl of plain yogurt and side settings of granola and fruit. I understand the need to separate because of allergies but, the sides of fruit and granola were almost nonexistent. At my table of 6 out of our group of 17 there def was not enough fruit or granola to be shared. Also the side of fruit did not look appetizing, it looked like one spoonful of what was left at the bottom of the barrel in the kitchen. Hard Pass. Grade: D-
Avocado Toast: Ahhh an ode to millennials and since I am included in that group of course I loved it. I will say this trend has been around for a bit and I tried to ignore it but, it caught up with me. I have never been an avocado-ey (:/) person because it never added anything to my meal. Having this item at brunch was well worth it though. They were able to mix together avocado puree, diced tomato, sliced avocado, onions and chili flakes and make it wonderfully delicious. Grade: A-
Baby Leaf Caesar: OMG! I love caesar salad to begin with, but this was so good. This item included baby kale, gem greens, caesar dressing, garlic parmesan crisp, and brioche croutons. I didn’t have too much, and it was your normal salad but still easily one of my faves from brunch. You can’t go wrong with a salad. Grade: A
Scrambled Egg Crostini: The last menu item that I stayed away from. I’m really particular with my scrambled eggs but besides that there was no specific reason why I did not try this dish. The eggs were served over toasted crostini, roasted tomatoes, and hollandaise drizzle. The other people sitting at my table seemed to enjoy it and the eggs did look fluffy and appetizing. Grade: B
Stuffed French Toast: Another one of the items that I loved and couldn’t wait to try after looking at Yelp before brunch that day. Stuffed brioche with maple infused mascarpone & ricotta, crusted in frosted flakes and with maple syrup. Easily a top contender on their menu and if you don’t like it def take a closer look into your taste buds lol. Grade A-
Chicken & Waffles: I mean self-explanatory and should be easy to make. This was a nice, classic dish and comfort breakfast item. Not too much to write here besides I liked the chicken more than the waffle. The waffle took the backseat to the chicken bite rather than adding to the dish. Grade B-
Maple Applewood Bacon: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon. I could eat a whole plate of bacon alone so I was really excited to eat some, however the bacon that came out was not crispy which I prefer. I still ate two pieces after fishing for the crispiest options lol. Nothing life changing here people, but you can’t do brunch without this side item. Grade: B-
Kobe Beef Sliders: I was really excited for this menu item, but my expectations weren’t met. The slider was good but there was a sauce used that I didn’t really care for. I scraped it off as much as I could and then ate the mini burger, but mentally I was already over it. One try was enough for me. Grade: D
Truffle Tator Tots: Last but def not least this item def slid in and stole the spotlight. I didn’t think much about the tots on the menu when researching on Yelp but maybe I should’ve. If you ever decide to snag a meal at this restaurant, please do yourself a favor and include this in your order. After tasting I continued to eat more without even noticing that I was still snacking. Grade: A+
Guys after finally making it to this brunch and getting to take a pic in front of the infamous wall upstairs, another one of my brunch dreams have been fulfilled. I can def see myself making another visit here in the warmer weather for another round of good food. Don’t be afraid to try everything listed here if you do visit and let me know how you would grade each item. Til next time Slayers!
