NYC Restaurant Week - Summer 2019
Hey Slayerss!
Of course I indulged in NYC Restaurant Week this Summer and had a great time. Restaurant Week is until Friday, August 16th so don’t miss out! After a bit of research my friends and I decided on Fine & Rare in Murray Hill. Fine & Rare is described as a fine dining restaurant with American cuisine where you can experience Old New York with food, cocktails and live jazz. I met one of my friends outside and we decided to wait for the last of our trio to arrive in this little nook right outside the doors. She was running a bit late, but I will tell you that they are very strict with reservations because while waiting I received a call from the reservations team. Even after letting them know that I was outside they still explained that there was only a 20-minute grace period. Thankfully my friend walked up around 2 minutes later, and we headed inside.
The description of the restaurant that I provided above was exactly the same vibe that we got once we walked in. There were people in suits and ties inside, a jazz singer on stage with the band behind her that we passed on the way to the table. I do think this would make the perfect date night spot because of the dimmed lighting and cozy booths. We were seated in an old school booth with a reserved sign, right in front of the center of the stage and I am not going to lie, I felt very important. Once seated, we were approached with menus and given some time to look it through. Immediately, I noticed that we were not provided with the Restaurant Week menus and dreaded having to ask for them. Probably my own insecurity but I just knew we would be treated differently once I did ask, however our waitress was glad to bring the menus over and her attitude towards us did not change at all.
We each got something different to eat, my meal was as follows: Appetizer: Seared Sea Scallops; Main Course: Pork Rib Chop; Dessert: Litchie and Green Apple Sorbet; Drink: Virgin Strawberry Cocktail (I decided not to drink that night, but the drink was amazing). I enjoyed everything that I ate that night, although I will say that the inside of the Pork Rib Chop was a bit dry, but I solved that issue by using the apple cider glaze that accompanied the dish. While we ate, we were able to enjoy the live performance before we received the check for the evening.
I am glad that we ventured out from the usual type of restaurant that we would normally go for and tried something different. The experience in this restaurant is one that I won’t forget, definitely worth one visit at least but I probably wouldn’t go again. If you guys have participated in NYC Restaurant Week before, please let me know some of your fave spots or if you have any other questions about any of the restaurants I have visited please leave them below!
